10.58

一、大綱三種：一、頓。二、漸。三、不定。此三名同舊，義異也（云云）。今釋此三教各作二解：一、約教門解。二、約觀門解。教門為信行人，又成聞義；觀門為法行人，又成慧義。聞慧具足，如人有目，日光明照，見種種色，具如《釋論》偈（云云）。

First, the broad outlines are of three kinds: first, sudden; second, gradual; third, indeterminate. These three names are identical to the old ones, but their meanings are different, and so forth. Now, explaining these three teachings each comprises two interpretations: first, interpreting in terms of the teaching gate; second, interpreting in terms of the contemplation gate. The teaching gate is for practitioners of faith and fulfills the meaning of hearing; the contemplation gate is for practitioners of dharma and fulfills the meaning of wisdom. When hearing and wisdom are fully complete, it is like a person with eyes when the bright sun shines, seeing various colors, fully as stated in the verse of the Commentary [on the Mahāprajñāpāramitā], and so forth.
