護持正念念清淨戒者，即四念處。觀理正念，雖未發真，由相似念，能發真道，成道共戒，故名正念念清淨戒。

'The pure precepts of mindfulness that protects and maintains right mindfulness' are the four applications of mindfulness. Right mindfulness contemplating principle, although it has not yet generated true [realization], is able through semblance mindfulness to generate the true path and accomplish the precepts accompanying the path; hence they are called the pure precepts of mindfulness of right mindfulness.
