然護他十戒，從自行五支中出：從根本、眷屬兩支出禁戒、清淨戒、善戒。何者？篇聚作法即是禁戒。禁戒若發無作，乃名清淨，清淨即止善：而言善戒，即是行善也。

However, the ten precepts for protecting others emerge from the five branches of one's own practice: from the two branches of the fundamental and the adjuncts emerge the prohibitive precepts, pure precepts, and good precepts. Why? The procedures of the disciplinary categories are the prohibitive precepts. If the prohibitive precepts generate non-informative form (avijñapti-rūpa), they are then called pure, and purity is good through cessation; and speaking of good precepts, this is good through active practice.
