5.61

若歷諸味，乳味有兩教：一教行位，亦廢、亦不廢：一教行位，不廢。酪教行位，有廢、有不廢。生蘇四教：三教行位，有廢、有不廢；一教行位，不廢。熟蘇三教：兩教行位，有廢、有不廢；一教行位，不廢。《法華》三教行位皆廢，一教行位不廢。但說無上道，同乘一寶乘，俱直至道場，故三義皆不廢。《無量義》云：「二道、三法、四果」不合，至《法華》皆合，故不論廢。成道已來，四十餘年，未顯真實，《法華》始顯真實。相傳云：佛年七十二歲。說《法華經》（云云）。

If we trace through the various flavors: the flavor of milk has two teachings; the practices and stages of one teaching are both abolished and not abolished, while the practices and stages of the other teaching are not abolished. For the curd teaching, the practices and stages are partly abolished and partly not abolished. For the raw curd-butter, there are four teachings: for three teachings, the practices and stages are partly abolished and partly not abolished, while for one teaching, the practices and stages are not abolished. For the cooked curd-butter, there are three teachings: for two teachings, the practices and stages are partly abolished and partly not abolished, while for one teaching, the practices and stages are not abolished. In the Lotus [Sūtra], the practices and stages of the three teachings are all abolished, while the practices and stages of the one teaching are not abolished. It only expounds the unsurpassed Way, [all] ride together in the single jewel carriage, and all proceed directly to the place of enlightenment; therefore in all three senses they are not abolished. The [Sūtra of] Innumerable Meanings states that the "two ways, three dharmas, and four fruits" were not united; coming to the Lotus [Sūtra], they are all united, so there is no discussion of abolishing. For over forty years since attaining the Way, the real was not yet revealed; only in the Lotus [Sūtra] was the real first revealed. Tradition says: when the Buddha was seventy-two years of age, he expounded the Lotus Sūtra, and so forth.
