"Unarisen" [truths]: because delusion regarding the real is light, it receives its name from principle. Suffering has no mark of oppression; accumulation has no mark of combining; the path has no dual mark; cessation has no mark of arising. Furthermore, practice accords with the emptiness of suffering, and the other three are also like this. Furthermore, regarding "unarisen": "arising" is the name for accumulation and path. Accumulation and path are themselves empty. Because they are empty, accumulation and path do not arise. When accumulation and path do not arise, then there is neither suffering nor cessation; it is real precisely in phenomena, not real after annihilation. The Great Sūtra states: "The bodhisattvas understand that suffering is devoid of suffering; therefore there is no suffering, yet there is the real truth." The other three are also like this. Therefore these are named the unarisen four noble truths. The meaning of "noble truth" is as expounded before.
