次約開合中約十二緣，一念為總、別即三道者，即十界三道，以下文分別約十界故。分別文中言「教相兼於開合」者，秖此教相一文兼前開合，約分別邊名為教相，秖一生滅名之為合，離為十界名之為開。

In the distinguishing text, the statement "the characteristics of the teaching combine expansion and contraction" means that this single passage on the characteristics of the teaching combines the preceding expansion and contraction: in terms of making distinctions, it is called the characteristics of the teaching; merely the single arising and ceasing is called contraction, and separating it into the ten realms is called expansion.
