"Asura", translated here as "without liquor". They gather flowers throughout the four continents and brew them in the great ocean; but through the karmic power of the fish and dragons, the flavor does not change, so in anger and jealousy they vow to abstain; hence they are called the spirits without liquor. It also means "not handsome". Master Dao'an, whose fame fills heaven, says they are called "sincere and straightforward". "Sincere and straightforward" means upright and truthful. These spirits are crooked and flattery-prone, not corresponding to this name. There are two kinds: those subsumed under the ghost realm, who dwell beside the great ocean; and those subsumed under the animal realm, who dwell at the bottom of the great ocean.
