"Vimacitra", translated here as "Pure Mind", also called "Various Doubts"; the sound produced by waves surging in the seawater is called Vimacitra. He is the father of Śacī. The *Guanfo sanmei jing* says: "Ābhāsvara devas were born in this place; the earth caused them to have desire, so they entered the sea to wash away impurity. Falling into the mud, it turned into an egg. After eight thousand years, it gave birth to a female with one short of a thousand heads and twenty-four arms. This female played in the water; the water essence entered her body, and after eight thousand years she gave birth to a male with twenty-four heads and one short of a thousand arms. The sound of the seawater waves was named Vimacitra. He sought a gandharva female and fathered Śacī. Through Śakra's karmic power, he made her father dwell in a seven-jeweled palace and took her as his wife. Later she slandered her father, and war ensued. With his feet he churned the ocean waves, and with his hands attacked Sudarśana; but through the power of Śakra's prajñā mantra, he could do no harm." The *Zheng* version calls him "Living in Leisure". As for the origin: body and mind are originally pure, while his trace takes this name. As for contemplation: right contemplation of the Middle Way is precisely the pure mind.
