Regarding origin and traces: in their origin they attained the samādhi of non-acceptance and had no attachment to either extreme, hence ‘unborn’; they severed the delusions of the five entrenchments, hence ‘slayer of foes’; and they were able to bless the nine paths and richly benefit sentient beings, hence ‘worthy of offerings.’ This is the original meaning. In expediently delivering sentient beings, passing through the five flavors and successively acting as ‘unborn,’ this is the traces. Furthermore, in origin they are the Dharma-body, while in their traces they manifest their own benefit; in origin they are prajñā, while in their traces they manifest non-birth; in origin they are liberation, while in their traces they manifest slaying foes (and so on).
