Next, in origin and traces, he first describes the three of the origin; next, from "coming as traces" onward, he describes the three among the traces: first clarifying the greatness of the origin, next from "originally attained" onward clarifying the superiority of the origin, and next from "previously already" onward clarifying the multitude of the origin. "Deliberating and lamenting" means planning affairs. Only after planning does one sigh in admiration, for it is not done heedlessly. The phrase "banner of victory" borrows text from the Pañcaviṃśati. The phrase "surpassing all non-Buddhists," according to principle, should say "surpassing all one-sided and small"; yet although what is surpassed is proximate, that which surpasses is distant, so in principle it also holds. Next, within the traces, first showing attachment and views resides in the milk flavor; therefore, these five flavors encompass the twelve thousand, for whether provisional or real, they have all passed through them; now following the provisional, it is therefore called "traces." Regarding "for a long time" onward and "and so forth," each has a long-standing origin, and depending on whether the origin is long or short, they set forth transformations in the interval, and today they are also present in the World-Honoured Śākyamuni's various flavors.
