"Kharaskandha": here translated as "Broad Shoulders", also called "Jeweled Brocade", and also called "Desire Brocade". "Vimacitra": here translated as "Loud Echo", because he uttered a great sound in the great waters and proclaimed of himself, 'I am Vimacitra'; hence called "Loud Echo". It is also called "Various Doubts", and also called "Cave Dweller", for he dwells in the deepest part beneath the sea. Thus asuras have two dwelling places: first, on the ground, in the Mount of Many Marks, where their power is the weakest; next, entering the sea twelve thousand yojanas north of Mount Sumeru, there is the Asura King Rāhu, who leads an immeasurable multitude of asuras; next, twelve thousand yojanas below Rāhu, there is an asura named Valiant; twelve thousand yojanas below Valiant, there is an asura named Fine Garland; twelve thousand yojanas below Fine Garland, there is an asura named Vimacitra; hence they are called cave dwellers. The Āgama Sūtras say: "The gods of the Ābhāsvara Heaven entered the seawater, and their semen flowed into the water, subsequently forming an egg; after eight thousand years an asura female was born, her body like Sumeru, with one less than a thousand heads. Water touched the female's body and gave birth to Vimacitra, whose form was four times larger than his mother's, with nine heads, eight legs, and one less than a thousand arms; he married a gandharva woman of the Fragrant Mountain and fathered Śacī."
