First, the transforming master is inconceivable. Other sūtras are either spoken by Śākyamuni himself or discussed jointly by four buddhas; whereas in the Lotus Sūtra, the emanations of the ten directions all arrive at the Dharma assembly, and the equally awakened of the three times gather together at Gṛdhrakūṭa. Hence the text says: 'In each direction, lands of four million nayutas of kotis were filled with Buddha Tathāgatas; all these buddhas of the ten directions gathered and sat in the eight directions.' This refers to the gathering of the buddhas of the present. The welling forth and appearance of Prabhūtaratna Buddha makes clear the gathering of the buddhas of the past. If the present has the buddhas of the ten directions, while the past only mentions Prabhūtaratna, the Saddharmapuṇḍarīkopadeśa states: 'This subsumes the extensive by means of the abridged, explaining that the function of one buddha completely subsumes the function of all buddhas of the past; thus the extensive and abridged mutually manifest with the present.' The great bodhisattvas universally assembling at Gṛdhrakūṭa refers to the gathering of the buddhas of the future. With the equally awakened of the three times gathering together at Gṛdhrakūṭa, among the various sūtras of the Great and Small there has never been such a magnificent assembly; this is called the transforming master being inconceivable.
