Seventh, the benefits are inconceivable. As the 'Chapter on the Discrimination of Merits' explains, hearing the sūtra yields twelve kinds of benefits, beginning with bodhisattvas as numerous as the sands of immeasurable Ganges rivers realizing the forbearance of the non-arising of dharmas, and ending with sentient beings numbering the dust motes of the worlds in the eight directions generating the bodhicitta. With the eight chapters set forth together—namely 'Devadatta', 'Bhaiṣajyarāja', 'Gadgadasvara', 'Avalokiteśvara', 'Dhāraṇī', 'Ancient Accounts of King Śubhavyūha', and 'Encouragement of Samantabhadra'—those who attained the Way cannot be fully recounted. This is called the benefits being inconceivable.
