3.126

經曰　爾時地藏菩薩從眾中起，至于佛前合掌胡跪而白佛言：「尊者！我觀大眾心有疑事猶未得決，今者如來欲為除疑，我今為眾隨疑所問，願佛慈悲垂哀聽許。」佛言：「菩薩摩訶薩！汝能如是救度眾生，是大悲愍不可思議。汝當廣問，為汝宣說。」

The sūtra says: At that time, Bodhisattva Kṣitigarbha arose from the assembly, went before the Buddha, joined his palms, knelt on his right knee, and addressed the Buddha, saying: 'Honored One! I observe that in the minds of the great assembly there are doubtful matters that have not yet been resolved. Now, the Tathāgata wishes to eliminate doubts for them. I will now ask questions on behalf of the assembly in accordance with their doubts. May the Buddha, in his kindness and compassion, deign to grant permission.' The Buddha said: 'Bodhisattva-mahāsattva! That you are able to rescue and cross over sentient beings in this way is great compassion that is inconceivable. You should inquire extensively; I shall expound it for you.'
