The treatise states: From here down is the third [part], directly resolving all doubts. In this there are two: first, resolving six doubts across six chapters in reverse order; second, dispelling three doubts in one chapter in direct order. In the first, there are also two: first, specific resolutions; second, general determination. In the first, the specific resolutions, it specifically resolves six doubts, resolving them step by step in reverse order from the later to the earlier. Now this question and answer resolves the doubt arising from the 'Chapter on the Tathāgatagarbha.' That [chapter] says, 'Causes and conditions are without non-arising, because they do not arise, they do not cease,' wherein one clings to the existence of causes and conditions capable of producing, and doubts why their effects are not produced by conditions; thus, taking occasion from that doubt, he asks about conditioned production. The Tathāgata's single verse directly resolves this doubt: the first half settles his original clinging, and the second half, based upon that, refutes its conditioned production. The core meaning directly establishes that conditions do not produce dharmas, since they are viewed against non-existent dharmas just as one views a rabbit's horn; by this inference, that doubt is resolved.
