1.31

第十具十二者，一是契經攝，以《涅槃經》說始從如是終至奉行是契經故。二應頌，如下文具有重頌故。三記別，如下文具有記成佛等故。四諷頌，如下文有直說頌等故。五自說，如下文從定起即說本分等。六緣起，如下文因請說故。七譬喻，如下文廣說喻故。八本事，如下說盧舍那等及普賢本所經本事故。九本生，如下說舍那等本生相故。十方廣，一門可知。十一希法，如下文毛孔說法及座出眾寶柱現佛等。十二論義，如《瑜伽》八十一說，謂諸經典循環研覈摩怛理迦。一切了義經皆名摩怛理迦，謂於是處世尊自廣分別法相等，如下文〈明難品〉等說。是故此經具有十二部攝也。餘義如下十二部經處說。藏部攝竟。

Tenth, being fully endowed with the twelve: First, it is subsumed under sūtra (契經), because the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra states that from 'Thus [have I heard]' to 'faithfully practiced' is sūtra. Second, geya (應頌), because the text below fully contains reiterative verses. Third, vyākaraṇa (記別), because the text below fully contains prophecies of attaining Buddhahood and so forth. Fourth, gāthā (諷頌), because the text below has direct verses and so forth. Fifth, udāna (自說), as in the text below where arising from samādhi [the Buddha] immediately speaks of the original portion and so forth. Sixth, nidāna (緣起), as in the text below being expounded due to requests. Seventh, avadāna (譬喻), as in the text below broadly expounding similes. Eighth, itivṛttaka (本事), as in the expositions below of the past events formerly experienced by Rocana and others as well as Samantabhadra. Ninth, jātaka (本生), as in the expositions below of the past birth aspects of Rocana and others. Tenth, vaipulya (方廣), which can be known through the single approach [above]. Eleventh, adbhutadharma (希法), as in the text below where pores expound the Dharma, and the seat brings forth multitudes of precious pillars in which Buddhas appear, etc. Twelfth, upadeśa (論義), as stated in fascicle 81 of the Yogācārabhūmi, which refers to circulating and investigating the mātṛkā among the various scriptures. All definitive sūtras are called mātṛkā, meaning that in those places the World-Honoured One himself broadly analyzes the characteristics of phenomena, as expounded below in the chapter 'Clarifying Difficulties' and others. Therefore, this sūtra is fully endowed with being subsumed under the twelve divisions. The remaining meanings will be expounded below under the section on the twelve divisions of sūtras. The subsumption under pitakas and divisions is concluded.
