Fourteenth, the marks of the hands are of twelve kinds: In the first mark of the palms of the hands, "emitting great light" and so on clarifies the function and benefit: turning the dharmacakra, illuminating the ocean of Buddhas, and adorning the dharmadhātu. In the second mark of the jeweled hands, the essence possessing all virtues is called "ocean," and the function of light looking upon things is called "illumination." In the third mark of the wondrous hands, because constantly green vaiḍūrya jewels are used to adorn his hands, it is named "universal adornment," and also named "wondrous hand." From "universally illuminating all" onward clarifies the karmic function and benefit. Fourth is the mark of the hands illuminating like immaculate lamps; this is also the mark of the hands with webbed membranes, whose function guides bodhisattvas to reach the other shore. Fifth is the mark of the hands manifesting jewels, meaning that the light of the jeweled lotus flower illuminates the dharmadhātu, hence it is named thus. Sixth, in the function of the mark of the illuminating hands, jeweled light illuminates the dharmadhātu, and fragrant light adorns the ocean of lands. Seventh, in the mark of the vaiḍūrya-lamp hands, the essence possesses the virtue of vaiḍūrya, and the function of light is the cloud of lamp-illumination. Eighth, in the mark of the wisdom-lamp hands, golden light universally illuminating is the wisdom lamp. Ninth, in the mark of the lotus hands, the essence possesses the name of the jeweled flower, called "lotus light"; covering the world, it therefore peacefully abides. Tenth, in the function of the mark of the hands filling the dharmadhātu, first, light illuminates and manifests the Tathāgata and fills the dharmadhātu; later, from "the Tathāgata's wondrous hands" onward clarifies the hands possessing virtues and the function filling the ocean of lands. The Dà zhìdù lùn [describes] standing upright with hands touching the knees. Eleventh, in the function of the mark of the right fingers, jeweled flowers and wondrous sounds adorn and manifest the ocean of lands, hence it is named "accomplishing," and so forth. Twelfth, the mark of the fingertips emitting jewels is named "peacefully abiding in all jewels" because it can illuminate the dharmadhātu of the Buddha's treasure-trove; it takes its name from virtue. "Emitting great light" and so on clarifies the function and benefit: first, it illuminates and manifests the ocean of the Triratna; later, from "bringing forth" onward clarifies emitting sounds to universally awaken [beings] and increase their vows and practices.
