2.24

初眾數者，謂此初會有五十五眾，始從普賢至摩醯眾為三十四類；後從善海還至普賢為十八眾，牒前總為五十二眾；海慧內眾并新集十方及勝音眾，牒前總為五十五眾。

First, the number of assemblies: in this first assembly, there are fifty-five assemblies, beginning from Samantabhadra up to the assembly of Maheśvara, making thirty-four classes; later, from Shan Hai back to Samantabhadra, there are eighteen assemblies, which recapitulating the former makes fifty-two assemblies in all; the internal assembly of Sāgaramati, together with those newly gathered from the ten directions and the assembly of Sheng Yin, recapitulating the former makes fifty-five assemblies in all.
