Fifth, because it reveals virtues: it reveals the extraordinary virtues of the fruit of buddhahood to lead the bodhisattvas to have faith in, aspire to, and realize them. In this there are two kinds: first, the fruit of dependence, that is, the sea of worlds of the Padmagarbha adornment; second, the principal fruit, that is, the Tathāgata's ten bodies penetrating the three realms of existence, and so on. Both are as explained in the text below. The unimpededness of these two has four propositions: (1) dependence manifesting within dependence, such as a sea of realms manifesting within a dust particle; (2) principal manifesting within principal, such as Buddhas manifesting within a pore, and so on; (3) dependence manifesting within principal, such as realms manifesting within a pore, and so on; (4) principal manifesting within dependence, such as Buddhas manifesting within a dust particle, and so on. Therefore, whichever gate is taken up, it completely subsumes all without remainder, both being as explained below. It is to reveal these virtues of the fruit that this sūtra was preached.
