Tenth, resonant responses: The ruler of the Song invited a Tripiṭaka master who came from the west and ordered him to lecture on this sūtra. The man was troubled that he had not yet mastered the local tongue and feared he could not fully convey its import, so he entered the bodhimaṇḍa to pray. Scarcely seven days having elapsed, he dreamed that his Indian head was replaced with a Chinese head; thereupon he thoroughly understood the Song language and lectured without impediment. Moreover, a nun of Mount Jiulong revered this sūtra and read and recited it with single-minded devotion for over twenty years, whereupon she was granted the vision of oceanic worlds on the tip of a single hair. In addition, a nun of Mount Wutai regularly chanted this sūtra, completing the entire work from dusk until dawn, with bright radiance from her mouth illuminating the valleys and mountains all around. Furthermore, Dharma Master Ju of the Northern Qi venerated this sūtra, but lacked a teacher's instruction; he read it with single-minded prayer for understanding for over fifteen years, whereupon he dreamed that Sudhana gave him medicine for intelligence, through which he immediately attained awakening, composed a ten-fascicle commentary, and lectured on it more than fifty times. Also, Chan Master Xiude of Zhongshan in Dingzhou copied this sūtra with earnest sincerity and observance of purity; afterwards, when the case was opened, it emitted light illuminating one hundred and twenty li. Also, the eunuch Liu Qianzhi, by virtue of single-mindedly reading this sūtra at Mount Wutai, restored his male form. Incidents of this kind are extremely numerous; they are fully recounted in the five-fascicle Biographies of the Avataṃsaka.
