Second, clarifying the two collections: first, the śrāvaka collection; second, the bodhisattva collection. Because the aforementioned three collections expound and reveal the principle, practice, and fruit of the śrāvaka, they are named the śrāvaka collection; because they expound and reveal the principle, practice, and fruit of the bodhisattva, they are named the bodhisattva collection. Hence the fourth fascicle of the Sūtrālaṃkāra states: "These three collections, through the distinctions of the higher and lower vehicles, are further divided into the śrāvaka collection and the bodhisattva collection." The Mahāyānasaṃgraha is identical to this. This is combined based on the two vehicles sharing the same principle and fruit. If viewed according to the distinction of teaching and practice, then the three vehicles are opened to form three collections, as in sūtras such as the Pu Chao. Moreover, because pratyekabuddhas mostly do not rely on teachings and appear in eras without a Buddha, and when a Buddha is in the world they are subsumed under the śrāvakas, they are simply divided into two, which are the distinctions of Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna, half-word and full-word teachings.
