Fifth, according to the two benefits: the first seven specifically elucidate the two benefits—faith and tireless vigor are practices of benefiting oneself, while the other five benefit others; the latter three generally pertain to both benefits, as they subsume and protect the first seven. Therein, the first two protect the first seven: modesty and shame counteract obscurations and protect them by keeping them free from evil, enabling faith and the others to become practices of non-attachment; through firm power, they protect them by establishing them in goodness, enabling faith and the others to become unshakable. The last one subsumes the first seven: first, it subsumes them so that they become practices; second, it subsumes them so that they attain the fruit. This may be known upon reflection.
