Third, from 'pāramitā' onward, there are two gates clarifying the practices in the stage of cultivation; this gate is the practice within its own station. That [previous passage] opened one wisdom into ten contemplations, whereas here it generally reveals cultivation as completely practicing the ten perfections. The ten perfections are all explained in terms of general characteristics, each one encompassing much; thus giving is said to be 'relinquishing everything,' and so forth. Wisdom (*jñāna*) is expedient means (*upāya*), the adaptive wisdom that advances toward the Buddha's powers, established under the name of wisdom. Spiritual penetrations are the perfection of power (*bala*), translated as 'spiritual powers' in the Jin version. Dharma is wisdom, named 'Dharma' after what is known. As for the twenty kinds of wisdom following awakening, because the previous practice accomplishes unreversed thorough penetration, skillfully being awakened and aware according to phenomena and according to noumenon, this is the prior superior progress's 'ten dharmas contemplating the realm of sentient beings,' etc. There is also mutual abbreviation here; fearing prolixity, I will not synthesize them.
