19.46

疏「轉法輪，不退有四」等者，此有兩種四不退義：前義即《十地論》，一向約利他大用而說；後四不退如常所辯，信謂十信，已滿十千劫故，亦是第六不退心也。位即十住第七不退住，不退墮聲聞辟支佛地，故名位不退。證謂初地，已證真如、已得不退。念即八地已上，念念入法流、心心趣寂滅，故得不退。

Regarding the Commentary's words 'In turning the wheel of the Dharma, non-retrogression has four types', etc.: here there are two meanings of the four types of non-retrogression. The former meaning is from the Daśabhūmikā-śāstra, exclusively spoken in terms of the great function of benefiting others. The latter four types of non-retrogression are as commonly discriminated: faith refers to the ten faiths, because ten thousand kalpas have already been fulfilled, and it is also the sixth non-retrograde mind. Stage refers to the seventh non-retrograde dwelling of the ten dwellings, not retrogressing or falling into the stages of śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas, hence called stage non-retrogression. Realization refers to the first ground, having already realized tathatā and attained non-retrogression. Thought refers to the eighth ground and above, where thought after thought enters the Dharma-stream and mind after mind proceeds to quiescence and extinction, thus attaining non-retrogression.
