23.39

疏「離世間品說有十種無畏」者，即第五十六云「佛子！菩薩摩訶薩有十種無畏。何等為十？」經文浩博，今當義引，謂一聞持無畏、二辯才無畏，上二不畏不能答難；三二空無畏，此不畏妄念；四威儀無缺無畏、五三業無過無畏，上二不畏外譏；六外護無畏，此不畏天魔外道；七正念無畏，不畏遺忘；八方便無畏，不畏生死；九一切智無畏，不畏二乘；十具行無畏，不畏不能化生。

Regarding the commentary’s "The 'Transcending the World' chapter speaks of ten kinds of fearlessness": this is in fascicle fifty-six, which states, "Disciples of the Buddha! Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas possess ten kinds of fearlessness. What are the ten?" The sūtra text is vast and extensive; here its meaning will be cited: first is the fearlessness of retaining what is heard; second is the fearlessness of eloquence—the above two are not fearing inability to answer difficult questions; third is the fearlessness of the two emptinesses—this is not fearing delusive thoughts; fourth is the fearlessness of unblemished deportment; fifth is the fearlessness of having no faults in the three karmas—the above two are not fearing external ridicule; sixth is the fearlessness of external protection—this is not fearing heavenly māras and non-Buddhists; seventh is the fearlessness of correct mindfulness, not fearing forgetfulness; eighth is the fearlessness of upāya, not fearing saṃsāra; ninth is the fearlessness of omniscient cognition, not fearing the two vehicles; tenth is the fearlessness of complete practice, not fearing inability to transform sentient beings.
