29.13

疏「所之在滅」者，滅為最上，之者適也。道能證滅，故為上行。此言在於《周易》，故謙卦云「地道卑而上行」，噬嗑卦彖辭云「柔得中而上行」。注云「上行，謂所之在進也。凡言上行，所之在貴也。」今借此文勢。

Regarding the Commentary: "That which is arrived at lies in cessation," cessation is supreme; *zhi* means to go to. Because the path can realize cessation, it is an ascending movement. These words are found in the Zhouyi: thus the Hexagram Qian says, "The way of earth is lowly yet moves upward," and the judgment of the Hexagram Shihe says, "The yielding attains the center and moves upward." The commentary says: "Moving upward means that where it goes lies in advance. Whenever 'moving upward' is spoken of, that which is arrived at lies in the noble." Here, the momentum of that text is borrowed.
