48.39

疏「以即空故」下，此有三義釋不壞因果。初同《淨名》「色即是空，非色滅空」故，此約空觀；二不礙存故，即假觀；三不壞假名說實相故，二義雙照為中道觀。

On the commentary's passage beginning with "Because it is identical with emptiness": here there are three meanings explaining why cause and effect are not destroyed. First, it is the same as the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa stating "Form is identical with emptiness; it is not that form is destroyed [to make] emptiness"; this is in terms of the contemplation of emptiness. Second, because it does not obstruct existence, it is the contemplation of provisionality. Third, because it explains the real mark without destroying provisional designations, the dual illumination of both meanings constitutes the contemplation of the Middle Way.
