疏「一揀異凡小」者，地前為凡，不破惑故、不證理故，不得稱大。二乘為小，二乘見道現在前時，唯斷煩惱、唯照生空故。二「能斷」下，當相辯大。

Regarding the commentary's "First, distinguishing to differentiate from ordinary beings and the small [vehicle]," those prior to the stages are ordinary beings; because they do not destroy delusions and do not realize principle, they cannot be called 'great.' The two vehicles are the small; when the path of seeing of the two vehicles manifests before them, they only sever afflictions and only illuminate the emptiness of persons. Second, below "Being able to sever...", it discriminates greatness according to its characteristics.
