61.20

疏「四禪之中」下，疏文分二：先義理、後釋文。文前分四：一等立四支、二歷禪有異、三舉其實法、四建立所由。今初，分三：初列支名、次「四中後三」下料揀同異、後「雖後後」下通妨。妨云：從初一非支上生難。難云：即初離障皆非是支。二禪離障云滅覺觀，覺觀即是初禪二支，何言非支？今答云：雖是前支，於我非支。餘二亦然。

Regarding the commentary's phrase "among the four dhyānas" onward: the commentary's text is divided into two. First, the doctrinal principles; second, explaining the text. Preceding the text it is divided into four: 1. Equally establishing the four factors. 2. Distinctions across the successive dhyānas. 3. Adducing their actual real entities. 4. The reasons for establishing them. Now in the first part, it is divided into three: first, listing the names of the factors; next, under "among the four, the latter three" onward, evaluating similarities and differences; finally, under "although the subsequent ones" onward, resolving an objection. The objection states: An objection arises regarding the first one not being a factor. The objection asks: "If the initial abandonment of obstacles is in all cases not a factor, the second dhyāna's abandonment of obstacles is said to be the cessation of investigation and scrutiny; investigation and scrutiny are precisely the two factors of the first dhyāna, so how can one say they are not factors?" Now it answers: Although they are factors of the preceding one, with respect to me they are not factors. The other two are also like this.
