疏「問香味之想」下，四通妨，先難、後答。答中二：先竪約漸修、後橫約頓證。前中又二：先通香味、後「色聲」下通餘三想，可知。

Under the Commentary's "Question: The notions of smell and taste," the fourth part resolves objections: first posing the objection, then answering. Within the answer there are two: first, vertically in terms of gradual cultivation; second, horizontally in terms of sudden realization. In the former there are again two: first resolving smell and taste; then under "form and sound" resolving the remaining three notions, which can be understood.
