63.36

疏「九自斷疑」等，即善分別道非道。言「如無畏」者，謂如四無畏言是出苦道。若有難言：若言聖道能出苦者，何故阿羅漢有瘡疾等？佛於此難正見無由，心無怯畏，善為決斷。故論云「能斷疑惑等者，降伏他言，正修習故。」疏分二疑，二疑皆斷，為正修習。

On the commentary's "ninth, severing doubt oneself" and so forth: that is, being skilled at distinguishing the path from what is not the path. As for "like the fearlessnesses": this refers to stating, as in the four fearlessnesses, that this is the path leading out of suffering. If someone challenges: "If you say the noble path can lead out of suffering, why do arhats have sores, sicknesses, and the like?" The Buddha, with correct view regarding this challenge, sees no basis for fear, his mind has no cowardice or trepidation, and he resolves it skillfully. Therefore the treatise says: "Being able to sever doubts and so forth is because one subdues the words of others through correct cultivation." The commentary divides this into two doubts; both doubts being severed constitutes correct cultivation.
