In the commentary, "Seventh, the link of feeling": the Kośa states: "Feeling is prior to sexual craving," meaning that from age five or six up to fourteen or fifteen, one has already comprehended the distinctive characteristics of the causes of the three feelings, but has not yet given rise to sexual craving; hence it is merely called feeling. The Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra states: "Staining attachment to a single craving is called feeling," which refers to craving for food and clothing. The Kośa verse states: "From this arise the six feelings: five contacts are bodily, the remainder is mental." This means that from the six contacts, six feelings arise—that is, feelings produced with eye-contact as a condition, and so forth. Among the six, the first five are called bodily feeling because they rely on physical faculties; the aggregation of physical faculties is called the body, and these are feelings of the body. That produced by mental contact is called mental feeling, being a feeling of the mind, which experiences contact. This has already been explained above.
