74.24

疏「但事滅」下，第二揀功能不等。先明事滅，六七不行，何能起用？後「證理滅」下，辨理滅功高既。即事而理，故定散無礙。

From the commentary's "Only the cessation of phenomena" onward: second, discriminating that their functions are unequal. First it clarifies that in the cessation of phenomena, since the sixth and seventh [consciousnesses] do not operate, how could they give rise to function? Afterward, from "Realizing the cessation of principle" onward, it distinguishes that the merit of the cessation of principle is superior: because phenomena are directly principle, samādhi and distraction are unimpeded.
