Regarding the commentary's "Seventh, expounding supreme practice": the commentary text also has two parts: first, explaining the overall intent; second, opening the sections to explain them. In the former, the first two lines directly explain according to the teaching; the latter two lines cite non-Buddhist matters as testimony—namely, from Book 2 of the Analects, where the latter two lines say: "Do not worry that no one knows you; seek to be worthy of being known." Master Bao's commentary says: "If you seek the good Dao and practice it, then people will know you." Here this is cited as testimony: seeking to be worthy of being known and that which one is able to establish are both practice. The first two lines mean that when practice is accomplished, one attains position; the latter two lines mean that when practice is accomplished, one attains a reputation. Now, in order to verify position, it only cites the former.
