The Commentary states: "If one maintains that entering extinction in the Lotus..." and below; this is the eighth part, blocking the defense regarding entering quiescence. Within this, it first cites their defense. It means that they defend themselves by saying: The third fascicle of the Lotus [Sūtra] above states, "In other lands I become a Buddha under different names. Although this person gives rise to the thought of extinction and enters nirvāṇa, yet in that land they seek the Buddha's wisdom, and upon hearing this sūtra they enter the Buddha's wisdom"—[they claim] this refers to magically transformed śrāvakas, not fixed-nature śrāvakas who enter extinction.
