Regarding the Commentary's "Furthermore, the Sūtra of the Devaputra Merchant Leader gives five meanings": 1. Because of abiding in, upholding, and entering into the bodhipakṣa dharmas, one is called a bodhisattva; 2. Because of entering the Mahāyāna and fulfilling the cognition of the Mahāyāna, one is called a mahāsattva; 3. Because of entering into the cognition and virtue of unobtainable dharmas, one is called the most supreme sattva; 4. Because of not cohabiting with afflictions, and generating vigor for the sake of eliminating afflictions for sentient beings, one is called a pure sattva; 5. Because of causing sentient beings to practice the pure path, one is called an extremely pure sattva.
