Fourth, Mahoraga King: this is translated as "great python", and also as "great belly". Uraga means "crawling on chest and belly". It presides over the vīrya-pāramitā. "Crawling on chest and belly" illustrates striving to seek the joy of Dharma and benefit others, prostrating to abandon arrogance with humility and respect; this is the meaning of diligence. It clarifies the Dedication Reaching Everywhere: in the births of the six destinies, there is nowhere it does not enter. These are spirits that guard saṅghārāmas, because they can protect the Dharma. As the "Chapter on the Dharmadhātu" says: "Seeing the Buddha with joy, bowing reverently, the mahoraga kings." The ten kings here clarify the ten pāramitās within the vīrya-pāramitā; each can be seen by matching them with the meanings under their names. This assembly also illustrates skillful means, acting identically with what sentient beings crave and cling to. It clarifies that the bodhisattva abides in saṃsāra and acts identically, causing them to remove the net of craving. As praised in the virtues below, they all diligently cultivate vast skillful means, causing all sentient beings to forever rend the net of delusion.
