1.40

經曰「摑裂邪網消滅諸見」者，述云：第二、破邪弘正。有四：此初、序破邪。又有二：初、除見品之邪也。邪網者，即邪法也。諸見者，即邪執也。邪見必依邪法起，故皆破之。摑（古惡反）亦裂也。足踰口裂也，亦折也。裂（呂蘗反），陸法言《切韻》云「破」也。

The sūtra says: "Ripping apart the heterodox nets, eliminating all wrong views." The commentary states: Second, crushing the heterodox to propagate the orthodox. There are four parts. This initial part is the prologue on crushing the heterodox, which again has two: first, eliminating the heterodox of the category of views. The 'heterodox net' is heterodox teachings. 'All views' are heterodox attachments. Since heterodox views necessarily arise relying on heterodox teachings, both are crushed. 'Ripping' (摑, reading *guo*) also means tearing apart; tearing by overstepping with the foot, or breaking. 'Rending' (裂, reading *lie*): Lu Fayan's *Qieyun* says it means 'breaking apart'.
