On the sūtra passage from "The Buddha told Ānanda" to "a single Buddha-realm": The Commentary states: This is the second [section], which elaborates on what has been accomplished. It ought to explain what has been accomplished separately in corresponding response to the preceding vows, but for fear of prolixity, it briefly reveals the excellence of the fruits. There are four parts: first, praising the fruit of the Buddha's body, which is the retribution corresponding to the vows for the Buddha's body; second, setting forth his retinue, which is the retribution corresponding to the vows for bodhisattvas and śrāvakas; third, praising the marvel of the Buddha-land, which is the fruit corresponding to seeking a Pure Land; fourth, revealing what they do, which is the fruit corresponding to the vows to gather sentient beings. The first also has two parts: first, praising separately; and second, concluding the praise. The first also has two parts: first, praising the supreme excellence of the light; and second, revealing the longevity of his lifespan. The first also has four parts: here in the first, Śākyamuni praises [it] himself. There are two parts: here in the first, he praises its superiority in contrast to what is inferior. This is the retribution corresponding to the vow that the light be unexcelled.
