經曰「佛言汝今」至「苦痛之道」者，述云：第四、勸人脩捨。有二：初、佛勸脩捨；後、彌勒領解。初又有三：初、以理正勸；次、舉現化勸；後、以化滅勸。初又有二：此初、正勸脩棄也。端守者，匡邪守正故。

On the passage from the sūtra beginning "The Buddha said: You now" to "the path of pain and suffering": the commentary states: Fourth, encouraging people to cultivate and abandon. There are two parts: first, the Buddha encourages cultivating and abandoning; second, Maitreya grasps and understands. The first has three parts: first, directly encouraging by means of principle; next, encouraging by citing the present teaching; last, encouraging by citing the extinction of the teaching. The first again has two parts: this first directly encourages cultivating and abandoning. 'To uprightly guard' means to rectify what is crooked and guard what is correct.
