經曰「佛告阿難」至「無著無礙」者，述云：第三、褒貶得失令物脩棄。有五：此初、佛命阿難禮彌陀佛也。彌勒是影響眾之主，阿難為當機宜之首故。佛唯對此二大聖勸物令修淨土之因。

On the passage from the sūtra beginning "The Buddha told Ānanda" to "unattached and unimpeded": the commentary states: Third, evaluating advantages and disadvantages to cause beings to cultivate and abandon. There are five parts: this first is the Buddha commanding Ānanda to pay homage to the Buddha Amitāyus. Maitreya is the chief of the retinue of influence, and Ānanda is the head of those suited for the immediate teaching. Therefore the Buddha, only toward these two great holy ones, encourages beings to cultivate the causes for the Pure Land.
