3.71

經曰「照諸功德等一淨故」者，述云：此後、除障勝。有二：此初、總標也。位法師云「下有二十句皆辨慧能」，然慧必不離定，故說定慧離障者勝。無有一德而不離染，故云等一淨。

The sūtra says: "Illuminating all virtues with equal and singular purity." The commentary states: This latter part is the superiority of eliminating hindrances. It has two parts: this first is a general heading. Master Fawei says: "The following twenty phrases all distinguish the capabilities of wisdom." However, wisdom is never separate from concentration; hence it says that concentration and wisdom being free from hindrances is superior. There is not a single virtue that is not free from defilement; hence it says "equal and singular purity."
