3.147

「『不必受持讀誦方等經典，善解義趣，於第一義心不驚動，深信因果，不謗大乘。』」上二句，示缺行也。善下，彰有解也。第一義者，了達諸法畢竟空寂。由從緣起無自性故，出過諸法，故云第一。心不驚者，不狐疑也。信因果者，諸法雖空，善惡因果無毫差也。如此信解，方契大乘，豈有謗耶？二、發願。

"‘They do not necessarily accept, uphold, read, and recite the Vaipulya sūtras, but they well understand the meaning and principles, their minds are not alarmed or shaken regarding the supreme truth, they have deep faith in cause and effect, and do not slander the Mahāyāna.’" The upper two sentences indicate the lack of practice. From "well [understands]" downward displays the possession of understanding. "The supreme truth" means thoroughly realizing that all dharmas are ultimately empty and tranquil. Because they arise from conditions and have no intrinsic nature, they surpass all dharmas; hence it is called "supreme." "The mind is not alarmed" means having no doubt. "Faith in cause and effect" means that although all dharmas are empty, cause and effect of good and evil do not differ by a hair's breadth. Only with such faith and understanding does one accord with the Mahāyāna; how could one slander it? Second, making vows.
