「喻如」已下合第二段，喻中三句但合第二，先舉前喻，後合可知。「如彼女」下合第三段，喻中四句但合第一、第三、第四，第二一句略而不合。「如彼女人洗乳喚子，欲令還服」，舉前喻中初句之文，「我今亦爾說如來藏」舉法以合，「是故比丘不應生怖」合第三句「我乳洗竟，飲乳無苦」。「如彼小兒聞喚還飲」舉前喻中第四句文，「比丘亦爾」舉法以合，「應自分別如來祕藏不得不有」約喻以勸。

From “just as” onward applies to the second section; of the three clauses in the metaphor, it applies only to the second; first adducing the previous metaphor, the subsequent application can be understood. From “just as that woman” onward applies to the third section; of the four clauses in the metaphor, it applies only to the first, third, and fourth, while the second clause is omitted and not applied. “Just as that woman washed her breast and called her child, wishing to make him drink again” adduces the text of the first clause in the previous metaphor; “I am now also likewise, expounding the tathāgatagarbha” adduces the Dharma to apply it; “therefore, bhikṣus, you should not give rise to fear” corresponds to the third clause, “my breast is washed clean, drinking the milk brings no suffering.” “Just as that young child, hearing the call, returned to drink” adduces the text of the fourth clause in the previous metaphor; “the bhikṣus are also likewise” adduces the Dharma to apply it; “you should distinguish for yourselves that the Tathāgata's secret treasury cannot fail to exist” urges them based on the metaphor.
