Below, in the Buddha's teaching, he answers in sequence from back to front based on the three sections above. The first verse gives an injunction and promises to explain, answering Kāśyapa's request in the third section above; the next verse clarifies existence and not non-existence, answering Kāśyapa's request in the second section above; the latter two and a half verses clarify the benefits of taking refuge, answering Kāśyapa's request in the first section above. In the first part, "Kāśyapa! You should know" is words of injunction. "I now for you..." promises to explain; "Will skillfully open the secret treasury" reveals what he himself will speak of, answering the earlier request, "May you speak of the jewel treasury." "To cause you to sever doubt" clarifies the benefit of the explanation, answering the earlier request, "Sever and end my doubts." In the second verse, "You should listen with utmost sincerity" is words of admonition; "You, regarding..." and below clarifies that the nature of the three refuges exists and is not non-existent: "You" is Kāśyapa, and "regarding all bodhisattvas" and so on, inwardly there is the true nature of the three refuges, not different from my name, Śākya, "named the Seventh Buddha," sharing the same designation. Among the seven buddhas, Śākya is the last, named the Seventh Buddha. Śākya is the family name, translated here as "capable"; Muni is the personal name, translated here as "full." Within the bodies of sentient beings the dharmakāya is full, not different from the fullness of virtue of the Muni Honoured One; hence "sharing the same designation with the Seventh." Sentient beings with consciousness equally possess the true nature of the three refuges; why does he specifically say "you, regarding the bodhisattvas"? Because they seek to see it, the Buddha speaks of its existence to them. In meaning, existence is truly universal, and in existence it should be identical to all buddhas; why does he only speak of being identical to the Seventh Buddha? Because the Seventh Buddha's name means "full."
