In the second passage, first is the analogy of following Māra, and afterward is the analogy of following to one's harm. "Therefore, all [...] even all fear" is an analogy for following Māra's conversion. "Lions, tigers," and so forth are an analogy for the śrāvakas: bewildered by Māra, they submit to and follow Māra's conversion, hence it is said "all fear." From "these evils" onward is an analogy for following to one's harm. "Or hear its voice" refers to hearing his spoken words; "or see its form" refers to seeing his bodily transformations; "or touch its body" refers to being aligned with his mental actions—affectionate intimacy is called "touching"; "none who do not perish" refers to perishing in their wisdom-life.
