In the third section, it first presents the empty house, the minds and consciousnesses of sentient beings, and the simile of non-conception. In the simile of the empty house, it first clarifies that it neither dwells nor does not dwell; from "Therefore" onward, it concludes. From "Ordinary people" onward, it refutes its fixed dwelling: therein, it first presents what ordinary people see, next refutes it, and subsequently explains; the mind and non-conception can be understood by analogy with this. Below, it applies this to reveal the doctrine, wherein there are three distinct clauses: first, the words "The Tathāgata's grief and sorrow are like this" broadly clarify the meaning of neither existing nor not existing; second, from "If there were no grief" onward, it separately clarifies non-non-existence; third, from "If one says there is" onward, it separately clarifies non-existence.
