From here down is the third section, which explains the characteristics of the sūtra causing people to generate the resolve based on the first segment above. Kāśyapa first asks: "How does one who has not yet generated [the resolve] make a cause for bodhi?" Below, the Buddha analyzes it for him. Within this, the text is divided into six clauses forming three pairs: First, explaining a person who opposes the sūtra, saying, "I have no need to generate the bodhi mind; and slandering the true Dharma"; second, from "this person" onward, explaining that the sūtra benefits the person by causing them in the present to see a rākṣasa in a dream and generate the bodhi mind, and after being born in other destinies, to continue to remember it; indeed, because lack of faith is a fault here, they are frightened by seeing a rākṣasa in a dream, just as below it explains that in the context of the Dharma as a skilled physician, committing an offense is a fault, so it causes them to dream of falling into hell—this is the first pair. Third, from "You should know" onward, it explains that the person frightened into generating the resolve previously is great, not small; reaching the utmost within the good destinies, they are therefore called a great mahāsattva; fourth, from "For this reason" onward, it concludes by explaining the meaning of the power of the sūtra benefiting people—this is the second pair. Fifth, from "This is called the cause for a bodhisattva's generating the resolve" onward, it concludes by explaining that from which a bodhisattva's generating the resolve arises; sixth, from "For this reason" onward, it concludes by praising the Dharma of the sūtra as true and not false because it can benefit people, whereby we know this sūtra is truly spoken by the Buddha—this is the third pair.
