4.140

自下第二明其法力令人成行。於中，初明滅罪之行，「譬如蓮華為日照」下明其對治滅煩惱行。前明滅罪，即是答上云何於眾而得無畏；今明菩薩懺悔滅罪，故於闡提大眾之中獨得無畏。文中有三：一明闡提可畏、二「云何見」下明菩薩無畏、三「從作惡不即受」下明一闡提不畏所以并教菩薩對治捨畏。

From here on, the second [part] explains that the power of the Dharma causes one to accomplish practice. Therein, it first explains the practice of extinguishing sin; from "just as a lotus is illuminated by the sun" onward, it explains the practice of counteracting and extinguishing afflictions. The former's explanation of extinguishing sin directly answers the question above about how one attains fearlessness in the assembly; here it explains that the bodhisattva repents and extinguishes sin, and therefore alone attains fearlessness amidst the great assembly of icchantikas. In the text there are three parts: first, explaining that the icchantika is to be feared; second, from "how does seeing" onward, explaining the bodhisattva's fearlessness; third, from "committing evil and not immediately receiving" onward, explaining the reason why the icchantika has no fear, and teaching the bodhisattva how to counteract and relinquish fear.
