In the second point clarifying the cultivation of practices free of sickness, "There are two causes and conditions by which there is no suffering of sickness" introduces it in general. Next, their names are listed, first asking and then listing: "First, compassion" refers to the mind of loving-kindness and compassion that benefits sentient beings; "Second, giving..." and so forth clarifies the practices of the four means of embracing that benefit sentient beings. From "In the past, the Tathāgata..." onward, it clarifies that the Buddha fully practiced the means of embracing, so he should not speak of sickness. "Always practicing loving words" is embracing through loving speech; "benefiting sentient beings without causing them suffering and distress" is embracing through beneficial conduct; and "giving medicines to the sick" is embracing through generosity; embracing through identity of action is omitted. "For what reason..." concludes with a rebuke.
